Finding us

Where exactly is Ristorante La Piazza?

San Marco 615, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy, in the sestiere of San Marco. The most useful landmark is the church of San Zulian, about 25 metres from our door, on the Mercerie side between Piazza San Marco and the Rialto. If you have reached San Zulian, you have reached us.

How far is it from St Mark's Square?

About 150 metres from St Mark's Basilica and 190 metres from the centre of Piazza San Marco, which is three to four minutes on foot with no bridge to cross. The Rialto Bridge is about 335 metres away, the Vallaresso vaporetto stop about 350 metres, and San Zaccaria about 385 metres.

What if we cannot find the door?

Call us on +39 041 523 1100 or send a WhatsApp message to +39 349 248 1656 and we will talk you in. It happens constantly in Venice and we do not mind at all. Allow longer than the distance suggests between 11:00 and 16:00 in summer, when the routes around San Marco move slowly.

Hours and booking

What are your opening hours?

We are open every day from 11:00 to 24:00, kitchen included, with continuous service through lunch, the afternoon, dinner and late evening. We open at 11:00, earlier than most kitchens in Venice, and you can eat a full meal mid-afternoon when much of the city is closed between services.

Are you open on public holidays?

Yes. We open on public holidays including Christmas and New Year's Eve. Those, and the Redentore weekend in July, are the busiest nights of our year and always need a booking.

Do I need to book a table?

Booking is not required and walk-ins are welcome all day, but it is strongly recommended for dinner and essential in high season, roughly Easter to early October, plus Carnevale, Christmas and New Year.

How do I book?

Six ways: our own booking form on this website, by phone on +39 041 523 1100, on WhatsApp at +39 349 248 1656, on TheFork, through the Reserve a table button on our Google listing, or by email at [email protected]. Booking direct with us is the fastest way to get an answer and lets us note a table outside, a dietary requirement or a high chair in advance.

How far in advance should I book?

A day or two is usually enough from November to March. Several days for a weekend evening between Easter and October. As far ahead as you can manage for New Year's Eve, the Redentore weekend in July, and Carnevale.

Can you take a large group?

Yes. We seat guests across two floors, and our second floor can be given over to a group as a private dining room, a separate space away from the street. For parties of more than eight, please contact us directly by phone or WhatsApp rather than using the online form, so we can arrange the right room and, where it helps, agree a set menu in advance.

Prices and payment

How much does dinner cost?

Starters run from 17 to 35 euro, pasta and risotto from 15 to 35 euro, fish main courses from 25 to 29 euro and meat main courses from 27 to 42 euro. Salads are 18 euro and side dishes 9 euro. Two courses come to roughly 40 to 60 euro per person before drinks. Our full menu with a price beside every dish is published on this website.

Which payment methods do you accept?

We are not cash-only. We accept Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club, Discover, JCB and China Union Pay, plus debit cards and contactless mobile payments. We do not accept cheques. You will always be given a receipt.

Food and dietary needs

What kind of food do you serve?

Venetian and Italian cooking. Adriatic seafood including whole baked branzino, pasta and risotto from Roman and Venetian classics such as cacio e pepe and tonnarelli allo scoglio, meat from the grill including black angus and tomahawk, and pizza. The kitchen runs continuously from 11:00 to midnight.

What are your signature dishes?

Our house speciality is branzino al forno, sea bass baked whole with purple potatoes, pine nuts and cherry tomatoes, sold by weight. Our signature pasta is cacio e pepe, tonnarelli in a pecorino fonduta with black pepper ground to order, finished at your table, at 26 euro or 41 euro with truffle. Guests also come back for paccheri with local lobster at 35 euro, the gran frittura Ducale at 29 euro, and the Adriatic mixed grill at 16 euro per 100 grams for two or more.

Do you have gluten-free options?

Yes. We keep gluten-free pasta and gluten-free pizza bases in the kitchen, so a coeliac guest can eat the same dishes as everyone else at the table rather than being limited to a salad. Much of our menu is also naturally gluten-free, including grilled and baked fish, grilled meat, risotto, carpaccio and tartare. Please tell us when you book so the kitchen has the pasta and bases ready for you.

Do you have vegetarian and vegan dishes?

Yes to both. Vegetarian dishes run right through the menu, including caprese with buffalo mozzarella, burrata pugliese with tricolore tomatoes, a broccoli veloute with burrata, mezzelune filled with cheese and porcini, tonnarelli cacio e pepe, Greek salad, and all the side dishes. Vegan options are available, so please tell us when you book and we will make sure there is something worth eating rather than just something you can eat.

Do you serve pizza?

Yes, every day, alongside the pasta and the fish, on the same menu and at the same hours from 11:00 to midnight. We also keep gluten-free bases, so a coeliac guest can order a pizza like everyone else at the table.

Do you have a children's menu?

We do not have a separate children's menu, but the kitchen will gladly prepare a simple plate of pasta. Just ask. We have high chairs and children are welcome at any hour we are open.

The restaurant

Where can we sit: inside, outside or upstairs?

Three choices. Outside, at tables on the street when the weather allows, which in Venice means most of the year. The ground floor, our main dining room and the busier of the two. Or the second floor, a quieter room upstairs away from the street, good for a longer dinner or a group who would rather have their own space, and available as a private dining room. Tell us which you would prefer when you book. Outdoor tables fill first and cannot be guaranteed.

Is the restaurant wheelchair accessible?

Yes. We have a wheelchair-accessible entrance, accessible seating and an accessible toilet. Venice itself is the harder part, so call us on +39 041 523 1100 before you set out and we will describe the flattest route from wherever you are staying. We do this often and we know which bridges to avoid.

What languages does your team speak?

Between us our team speaks Italian, English, French, German, Chinese, Korean and Dutch. You are very welcome to order in any of them. There is also free Wi-Fi throughout the restaurant.

Can I bring my dog?

Dogs are welcome at our outdoor tables. We are not able to seat dogs inside, so if you are travelling with one, please ask for a table on the street when you book.

Is there a dress code?

No. Come as you are. We are open from 11:00 to midnight and most of our guests arrive straight from a day of walking around Venice, which is entirely expected and entirely welcome.

What is the difference between La Piazza and La Piazza ZONE?

They are two restaurants from the same family, a few minutes apart in San Marco. La Piazza at San Marco 615 is the original, opened in 2003, serving the full traditional Venetian and Italian menu every day from 11:00 to 24:00. La Piazza ZONE at P.za San Marco 215 is the newer and more contemporary of the two, with a modern kitchen and a higher average spend. If you want the traditional dining room, come to 615. If you want the modern one, ZONE is a short walk away.
