What makes an evening here work
A romantic dinner in Venice is mostly a question of timing and a good table, and both are easier than people expect. The day visitors leave in the late afternoon, the streets around San Marco empty out, and by nine in the evening the busiest square in Italy belongs to whoever is still there.
We are a traditional venetian restaurant in Piazza San Marco 615, about 150 metres from the Basilica and three minutes on foot with no bridge to cross. Two brothers opened it in 2003 and it has been the same family on the same site since. The kitchen serves continuously from 11:00 to midnight, which matters more than it sounds: most kitchens in this quarter shut between lunch and dinner and stop serving at ten.
The table
A quieter table, asked for when you book
Tell us it is an anniversary, a birthday or a first night in Venice and we will hold you something more private — a corner, away from the door and the service run. It costs nothing and it changes the evening.
Same-day notice is enough. Put it in the notes when you book online, or telephone and say so. You do not need to arrange it two days ahead.
On arrival
Flowers on the table, or prosecco poured as you sit
If you would like roses on the table when you arrive, or two glasses of prosecco waiting rather than ordered, say so when you book and we will have it ready.
Again, the same day is fine. Ask in the morning for a table that evening and it will be there.
What to order
Two dishes built to be shared
The best thing on our menu for two people is not a set menu, it is a dish brought whole to the table and divided in front of you.
The tomahawk Black Angus is bone-in, cooked over fire and carved at your table. It is our best selling dish and it comfortably feeds two. The whole fish from the day’s catch is weighed and shown to you before it is cooked, then filleted beside you and served off the bone. Both are priced by weight and quoted at the table first, so there is no surprise on the bill.
Everything else is on the menu, with a price beside every dish. There is more on the steak on its own page.
Afterwards
The square at night, and what a gondola actually costs
The best thing to do after dinner here is free. Walk into Piazza San Marco at eleven at night, when the day-trippers have gone and the café orchestras have packed up. It is three minutes away and it is the reason people come to this city.
If you want the gondola, the fare is set by the Comune di Venezia and is the same at every station, so there is nothing to haggle over. After 19:00 the night rate applies: 110 euro for 35 minutes, and that is per gondola, not per person, for up to five people. Before 19:00 it is 90 euro for 30 minutes. Longer rides are charged in proportion to the time, not in fixed blocks.
The nearest station to us is Molo, on the waterfront in front of the Piazzetta by the two columns. Danieli is just east along the Riva degli Schiavoni, and Bacino Orseolo, officially the San Beneto stazio, sits just behind the Procuratie Vecchie.
One thing worth knowing: the city requires the official tariff table to be displayed at every station, on the boarding pontoon and inside every gondola. You are entitled to see it. Agree the length of the ride and the total before you step in, and settle separately for a serenade if you want one — a singer is not part of the city tariff and is not price-controlled.

Questions
Asked before booking
Can you arrange something special for a romantic dinner?
Yes. We can hold a quieter or corner table, and we can have flowers on the table or prosecco poured as you sit down. Tell us when you book, in the notes or by telephone. Same-day notice is enough for all of it.
How far in advance do I need to ask?
The same day is fine. Ask in the morning for a table that evening and it will be ready. Many restaurants in Venice want two days’ notice for anything like this; we do not.
Do you have a tasting menu for two?
We serve à la carte rather than a set tasting menu. For two people the dishes worth ordering are the bone-in tomahawk, carved at your table, and the whole fish from the day’s catch, filleted beside you. Both are shown and priced before they are cooked.
What time should we come for a quiet dinner?
After nine. The day visitors leave San Marco in the late afternoon and the quarter empties. Our kitchen serves until midnight every day, so a late table is a real option here in a way it is not at most places nearby.
How much does a gondola ride cost at night in Venice?
The fare is set by the Comune di Venezia and is identical at every station. From 19:00 to 04:00 it is 110 euro for 35 minutes; from 09:00 to 19:00 it is 90 euro for 30 minutes. That is per gondola rather than per person, for up to five passengers. Longer rides are charged in proportion to the time. A serenade is a separate, unregulated extra, so agree that price before you board.
Where is the nearest gondola station to Piazza San Marco?
Molo, on the waterfront in front of the Piazzetta beside the two columns. Danieli is a little further east along the Riva degli Schiavoni, and Bacino Orseolo, officially the San Beneto stazio, is just behind the Procuratie Vecchie. All three are a few minutes from us.
Is there a dress code?
No. People come from the opera in black tie and in from a day of walking in trainers, often at the same table. Wear what you like.
Where exactly are you?
San Marco 615, 30124 Venezia, about 150 metres from St Mark’s Basilica and roughly three minutes on foot with no bridge to cross. Venice numbers houses by district, so San Marco 615 means the district rather than the square itself: we are just off it.
